Swept Away

Swept Away
8X10, Oil on Panel
Available

This is studio finished plein air from Cadron Creek in Cleburne County, Arkansas just north of Quitman.  This was from November when I took some more paintings to Ellen Hobgood Gallery in Heber Springs.

This one was still finished in 2016 so it doesn't count towards my 50 in 2017.  I have finished 3 so far so with a couple more I'll be on schedule to make the goal.  I'll be getting pictures of those pretty soon.

This Too Shall Pass

This Too Shall Pass
8X10, Oil and Golden Opens on Panel
SOLD

I remember well hauling square bales as a kid.  It was hot, hard work and at the time I hated it. Now it's nostalgic, especially since almost no one uses square bales anymore.

This one was started on location as a plein air using Golden Open Acrylics and finished in the studio with oils.

Impression of Bridal Veil Falls, Cleburne County

Impression of Bridal Veil Falls
6X8, Oil on Panel

About 2 and a half weeks ago I took a trip up to Heber Springs to deliver a new batch of paintings to Ellen Hobgood Gallery and I took the opportunity to stop off at this local landmark to paint.  It was a very cold morning and the box canyon this fall is in does not have a very easy way in.  Luckily I was using my new Guerilla Painter box and ultra light tripod so it was at least manageable to get everything down in one trip.  I set up on the side of the canyon that got some sunshine in hopes of staying somewhat warm as I did not really dress appropriately for the cold.  I managed to tough it out for about and hour before I realized I just wasn't going to finish it there.  Because of the wet painting, it took 2 trips to get everything out and I was freezing by the time I hit the car.  Made me retire to the warmth of the coffee shop in Heber while I waited for the gallery to open.

Here's another one I started en plein air while in Heber Springs a couple of months ago.  This one was mostly complete when I decided I was done working with it on site.

Bank of Heber Springs, Cleburne County

Bank of Heber Springs
8X10, Oil on Panel

I started this one as a plein air at small festival in Heber Springs a couple of months ago.  A steady drizzle was falling and I had nice little beads of water all over my panel giving it this very interesting look.  I got a good enough handle on the architecture and put it away.  When I finally came back to it in the studio, I quickly realized this painting was going to be a fighter!  I finally got it pinned down and completed to my satisfaction.  This building is no longer a bank but houses other business.

Ellen Hobgood Gallery

I am very pleased to announce that I am now represented by Ellen Hobgood Gallery in Heber Springs, AR.  Ellen's gallery is at 101 S. 3rd Street in beautiful downtown Heber Springs, right across from the Cleburne County courthouse.  You can find an assortment of my Ozarks related paintings there including several Buffalo River pieces.  That courthouse is calling out for me to paint it, along with many many other locations in and around Heber!

Little Red River, Cleburne County

Little Red River
8X0, Oil on Wood
SOLD

Earlier this summer we took a trip to Heber Springs in Cleburne County.  I got several good pictures during that trip including parts of a quiant downtown.  The above scene shows Sugarloaf Mountain in the background and the Hwy 110 bridge.  This is a very popular trout fishing river.  There are actually two mountains around Heber named Sugarloaf.  The one shown here is the shorter of the two.  It has a dramatic, but small rock outcrop at the top.  The other is now in the middle of Greers Ferry Lake.
