Red River Ferry Boat
8X10, Oil on Panel
Late last year, I took my sons on a photographing trip to the extreme southwestern part of the state. We crossed over the Red River between Lafayette County and Miller County on Highway 160. Just across the bridge in Miller County was an access down the river. Given as how I like to paint bridges and rivers, I couldn't resist pulling over and seeing what the view looked like. The bridge here looked brand new but I was still very surprised to find this old ferry boat sitting near the boat launch ramp! I guess it had still been in use in recent times before the bridge had been constructed. I personally know of at least one other ferry still in use in Arkansas. It crosses Bull Shoals Lake from Peel to Missouri.
Texarkana is the county seat of Miller County and while there are many many great painting subjects there, this surprising little sight was my choice. Sorry Texarkana, maybe I'll get to one or more of your many great sights in the future.
