I'll Whisper My Secrets to the Stones

I'll Whisper My Secrets to the Stones
18X24, Oil on Panel

This was the first real bushwhack waterfall that we ever went and found.  It is called School House Falls and it's in Van Buren County.  It began to rain on us as we were heading back to the car and we took shelter for a while in an old abandoned barn.

Laura's Falls

Laura's Falls
10X14, Oil on Panel
NFS

Here's some new work for a change!  A few years back my family went on a waterfall hunting trip and found this little cascade upstream of the main waterfall we were trying to find.  It was a grey and humid day but the water was freezing cold.  I told my wife that if she would get into this waterfall, I would do a painting of it and name it Laura's Falls.  And she did.  Shortly after getting back I did a 5X7 of this scene but was not happy enough with it to post it so I finally got around to redoing a larger version with which I would be happy.  I think we need to go back some time and visit this place again.

Slowing it Down, Hwy 65 Northbound

Slowing it Down, Hwy 65 North
8X10, Oil on Panel
SOLD

Right before winding into Searcy County, Highway 65 plunges down into the Little Red River Valley.  It's a potentially treacherous descent for semi trucks, especially in the rain.

Deserted, Scotland Post Office, Van Buren County

Deserted
14X18, Oil on Canvas
Available

The little town of Scotland, Arkansas is almost dead. The school was consolidated several years ago into Clinton school district which is about 30 miles away. When I was in high school, I played a game of basketball in their gym. It was old as the hills even back then. The school was burned by arsons this past winter. Thankfully, we got pictures of it 2 summers ago and I may revisit this area with a painting of the school. It wasn't picturesque by many people's standards but then again, I can find charm in a lot of things.
This old post office has probably not been used in about 50 years and I don't recall seeing one of the new prefab post offices being put up in tiny rural towns these days.
In the midst of all this decay, there was a nicely refurbished old (though tiny) home right across the dirt road that was being used as a hair salon.
